				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Congratulations to Peter Eirew who was recently awarded the Governor General&#8217;s Gold Medal. This award is awarded to the student who has achieved the most outstanding academic record in the graduating class for the doctoral degree in 2011-2012 at UBC</p>
<p>This award is a tremendous accomplishment for Peter, for his supervisor Connie Eaves, to the Genetics Graduate Program, and every PI and student in CfIS graduate programs!</p>

<p>2011 was a very productive year for Isis Carter, who gave birth to a daughter in the summer, graduated with a Ph.D. in Genetics in November and took up a new position with <a href="http://www.stemcell.com/">StemCell Technologies</a> as a Product Manager of Heamatology.  Isis is delighted that she will be able to utilize her prior marketing skills in her new role, whilst keeping abreast of scientific progress.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Daiana is pictured here in <a href="http://www.bccrc.ca/dept/ic/genetics/dr.-wan-lam-phd">Dr. Wan Lam</a>&#8216;s lab at the <a href="http://www.bccrc.ca/">BC Cancer Research Centre</a>.  Daiana studied for her M.Sc. degree in Genetics under <a href="http://www.bccrc.ca/dept/ic/genetics/shoukat-dedhar-phd">Dr. Shoukat Dedhar</a>.  During her Master&#8217;s studies Daiana learnt about Dr. Lam&#8217;s research and she decided that she wanted to pursue her Ph.D. studies in his lab, so after graduation in May 2011, she joined the <a href="http://www.iop.ca/">Interdisciplinary Oncology Program</a>.  Dr. Lam&#8217;s research takes a systems or multi-dimensional approach to studying cancer &#8211; integrating genomic, epigenomic and transcriptomic events with biologic and clinical features.
